Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has congratulated the state’s Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, following his adoption as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Ambode described Hamzat’s emergence as a reflection of loyalty, consistency, and long-standing commitment to the growth and unity of the party. He noted that Hamzat’s consultations with key stakeholders demonstrated a deliberate effort to strengthen internal cohesion and promote the collective interests of the state.

According to the former governor, the development underscores growing confidence in Hamzat’s experience in governance and public administration, positioning him as a credible choice for the party.

Ambode also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging commitment to his re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stated that Nigeria’s prosperity remains closely tied to the continued leadership of the President, expressing optimism that ongoing policies would deliver long-term economic benefits.

“As I congratulate Dr Hamzat on his adoption, I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re-election of our leader,” Ambode said, adding that sustained governance under Tinubu would further consolidate national development.

He called on APC members in Lagos State to intensify mobilisation efforts in preparation for the elections, setting a target of at least three million votes for the President in the state. Ambode also urged party faithful to ensure strong performances across National Assembly and other elective positions.

The former governor further appealed for enhanced coordination among APC structures in the South-West, stressing the need to strengthen the party’s electoral prospects across the region.

Expressing optimism about the future, Ambode maintained that both Lagos State and Nigeria are on a path to greater progress under the ruling party.
