The Gombe State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, amid allegations of political bias.
The demand was made during a peaceful protest held at the INEC office in Gombe, where party members gathered to express their concerns over the credibility of the electoral body under Amupitan’s leadership.
Protesters carried placards bearing strong messages, including the inscription: “Amupitan: Resign before the street resigns you,” signaling growing dissatisfaction among party supporters.
The demonstration in Gombe is part of a broader wave of peaceful protests organized by ADC members across the country, all calling for the INEC chairman to step down.
The party has accused Amupitan of maintaining alleged ties with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), raising questions about his neutrality. These allegations follow the reported discovery of a social media account on X (formerly Twitter) purportedly linked to the INEC chairman.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from either INEC or Amupitan regarding the allegations or the calls for his resignation.
