Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, was reportedly targeted with a shoe thrown in his direction while delivering a speech at an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in the state.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Lafia Square during the APC presidential campaign rally, which was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC governors, party leaders and other prominent stakeholders.
A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, captured the moment an object, reportedly a shoe, was thrown towards the governor while he was addressing the crowd.
The development has triggered reactions among Nigerians on social media, with some interpreting the incident as a sign of growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Some commentators predicted electoral challenges for the APC in Nasarawa and other northern states, while others criticised the party over the country’s economic situation.
One social media user, @kos, suggested that several northern governors elected on the APC platform could lose their seats in 2027, claiming that the party was increasingly facing public rejection in the region.
Another user, @Nuel042, questioned the APC’s electoral prospects, arguing that the party would struggle to win states if elections were conducted freely and fairly.
Similarly, @VictorManjul accused the APC-led administration of worsening poverty in the country, while @Starcobaba described the party as rejected.
Meanwhile, @ukemy9 expressed doubts about the APC’s chances in Nasarawa State, citing alleged dissatisfaction with the party’s governorship primary and internal political disagreements.
Another commentator, @stevealu, claimed that the incident reflected growing opposition to Governor Sule’s reported second-term ambition.
However, the circumstances surrounding the shoe-throwing incident and the identity or motive of the person who threw the object have not been independently established.
