2027: Cross River Governor’s Wife Urges APC Members to Bury Differences, Unite for Tinubu’s Re-election

The wife of the Cross River State Governor, Mrs Eyoawan Bassey Otu, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to set aside their grievances, reconcile and work together ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mrs Otu made the appeal in Calabar during a meeting of the Women Mobilisation Directorate of the APC Campaign Council, organised ahead of the party’s rally in the state. The meeting was held at the instance of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Addressing party members, the governor’s wife urged them to put past disagreements behind them and focus on the party’s electoral prospects, particularly the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu.

“Whatever has been bothering us, whatever has been our pain, let’s bury the hatchet and move on,” she said.

Citing Ephesians 2, Mrs Otu encouraged members who felt offended or sidelined to remain committed to doing what was right, regardless of how they were treated by others.

“Whether they love you or not, just keep doing the right thing. At the appropriate time, the reward will come,” she added.

She also highlighted her contributions to healthcare delivery in the state, revealing that her free medical outreach had conducted more than 2,000 surgeries across 12 editions within three years.

According to her, the 13th edition of the programme was scheduled to hold the following week.

Mrs Otu explained that the initiative was designed to complement the state government’s efforts by addressing gaps in healthcare delivery while her husband focused on governance and infrastructure development.

She further urged APC women to intensify grassroots mobilisation by taking the party’s campaign to their homes, churches, markets and neighbourhoods.

“Talk to your neighbours about APC. Your faces have been sold. They know you already,” she said.

Also speaking, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Betta Edu, who serves as Co-Director of the APC Women Mobilisation Directorate, said the party would not repeat the mistakes it made during the 2023 general elections.

Edu commended the First Lady for her efforts in empowering women and noted the growing representation of women in the Cross River State House of Assembly.

She, however, challenged APC women to demonstrate their commitment through measurable electoral performance at their respective polling units rather than relying on promises.

“There is only one line of authority in Cross River State. Our leader is Governor Bassey Otu, and his dear wife. What they tell me to do is what I will go and do,” she said.

Edu called for aggressive grassroots mobilisation through door-to-door campaigns, church gatherings, prayer meetings and market engagements.

Describing the task ahead as urgent, she urged party members to organise effectively and secure victory for the APC across all 18 local government areas of Cross River State.

“Let’s not repeat the mistakes of 2023. We must ensure we win all the LGAs, 18 out of 18, for President Tinubu and Governor Otu,” she said.
