Mahdi Shehu Slams Power Minister Over ‘Freezers Are Freezing’ Remark

0

Public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has criticised the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, over his recent remarks that some Nigerians had asked him to slow down because their freezers were freezing.

Shehu described the minister’s statement as misleading in a post on his X account on Wednesday night.

“When telling barefaced lies becomes a trademark, it transmutes into pathology and hence incurable and irredeemable,” Shehu wrote.

“Such is the case in the minister’s shameless lie that smells to heaven,” he added.

Shehu’s comments followed Tegbe’s remarks at the commissioning of a 3-megawatt solar hybrid power project at the University of Abuja on Wednesday.

Speaking at the event, the minister said interventions by the Federal Government had resulted in improved electricity supply in some parts of the country.

Tegbe claimed that communities that previously experienced power outages lasting as long as three months were now receiving up to 18 hours of electricity daily.

“Some areas called me to say, look, I should slow down, that everything in their freezer is freezing,” the minister said.

“That is what a freezer is meant to do. Let it freeze the food that needs to be frozen,” he added.

The remarks have since drawn criticism from Shehu, who questioned the minister’s account of the reported improvement in electricity supply.
