A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to produce socialite Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, popularly known as KayCee Luxury, before the court over his continued detention without formal arraignment.
The order followed an ex parte application filed by Afolabi through his counsel, A. Labi-Lawal, SAN, under the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules, 2009.
Afolabi was arrested by NDLEA operatives on August 13 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while preparing to travel to Paris.
His legal team approached the court after he had spent more than 14 days in custody without, according to the application, being formally charged or arraigned.
Through the application, Afolabi is seeking the court’s intervention over what he contends is a violation of his fundamental rights arising from his continued detention.
Following the application, the court directed the NDLEA to produce Afolabi before it for the matter to be heard.
The order sets the stage for the court to consider the circumstances surrounding his detention and the reliefs being sought by his legal team.
