Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ekiti State have begun grassroots mobilisation for the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders converged in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Thursday for an advocacy and campaign awareness programme aimed at strengthening the PDP-APM alliance and building support for Makinde across the state.
The programme, tagged “APM Awareness Campaign,” brought together party members and stakeholders from the 16 Local Government Areas of Ekiti State, including youths, women, artisans and other groups.
PDP chieftain and convener of the alliance in Ekiti State, Lanre Fajuyi, said the mobilisation was driven by the belief that Makinde represents the type of leadership Nigeria needs at the present time.
Fajuyi urged PDP and APM members across the state to commence early grassroots mobilisation for Makinde’s emergence as president in 2027.
She said the country needed a government that would genuinely serve the interests of Nigerians, strengthen democratic governance and address the economic and social challenges confronting the people.
“Makinde represents the kind of leadership the country needs at the present time. I’m calling on the PDP and APM members across Ekiti to begin early grassroots mobilisation for his emergence as president in 2027,” she said.
The PDP/APM spokesperson for the South-West, Sanya Atofarati, said the alliance was formed to preserve multi-party democracy and provide a viable opposition platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atofarati described the APM as an increasingly viable platform in Ekiti, arguing that the alliance would enable PDP members and other opposition groups to participate actively in the forthcoming elections.
He said the partnership was necessary because of what he described as legal impediments and sanctions confronting the PDP.
“The beauty of democracy lies in the multi-party system. What we are witnessing today is a joint alliance between the PDP and the APM because we understand the legal impediments and sanctions currently confronting the PDP,” Atofarati said.
Also speaking, the APM Vice Chairman in Ekiti State, Remilekun Solola, emphasised the importance of the alliance, describing it as a strategic platform for building a credible opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Makinde emerged as the APM’s presidential candidate following the formalisation of the PDP-APM alliance in May 2026, positioning the partnership as part of efforts by opposition groups to mount a challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.
