APM Targets Tinubu in 2027, Backs Makinde for Presidency

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has declared its readiness to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, with the party backing Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as its candidate.

The party said it had begun preparations for an inclusive, people-driven campaign aimed at mobilising Nigerians and securing victory for Makinde at the polls.

APM National Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Abubakar, disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday, saying the party had spent recent months building nationwide networks, consulting with stakeholders and forging alliances with opposition parties.

According to him, the party has also put together a campaign structure comprising what it described as credible and experienced personnel, with the full machinery expected to be unveiled soon.

“As a party, I can assure you that we are ready for the task ahead. We have a very popular presidential candidate in Governor Seyi Makinde and we have worked out strategies to ensure that not only do we win the ballot, but also that our winning votes are firmly protected,” Abubakar said.

He added that the party would leave no stone unturned in its efforts to mobilise voters ahead of the election.

“We are working hard and will leave no stone unturned in our efforts in mobilising Nigerians for this election. We have assembled very credible hands to manage our campaign. We will unveil our campaign machinery to the public soon,” he said.

Abubakar further claimed that widespread dissatisfaction with the Tinubu administration had created an opportunity for Makinde to emerge as an alternative candidate, pointing to the governor’s record in Oyo State as a major selling point.

“Nigerians are eager to oust the APC from power due to President Tinubu’s abysmal failure in office. Most Nigerians have expressed their readiness to vote in Seyi Makinde as the credible alternative to President Tinubu,” he said.

The APM spokesman also referenced the recent Osun State governorship election, describing it as evidence of the ability of voters to determine electoral outcomes.

He expressed confidence that Nigerians would similarly support Makinde in the 2027 presidential election.

“Of course, last Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State has shown the power of the people in an election. Come January 2027, Nigerians will speak with one voice for Seyi Makinde,” Abubakar said.

He assured that the APM would operate within the law to protect votes cast for its candidate, while making electoral integrity a central part of its campaign strategy.

The party also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure that the 2027 elections are free, fair and credible, stressing that the final outcome must reflect the will of Nigerians at the ballot box.
