Nasarawa Govt Moves to End NSUK ASUU Strike, Assures Students of Return to Class

The Nasarawa State Government has assured students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), that it is intensifying efforts to resolve the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and facilitate their return to the classroom.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Labaran Magaji, gave the assurance on Wednesday when he received a delegation of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at his office in Lafia.

Magaji sympathised with students affected by the industrial action, saying Governor Abdullahi Sule was concerned about the disruption to academic activities and was working towards resolving the impasse.

He said the governor was committed to finding a lasting solution to the dispute between the university authorities and the striking lecturers.

“I can assure you that, as a listening government that we have under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule, such concern is sooner or later going to be resolved.

“The Governor is not sleeping over it. He is intensifying efforts to see that this issue is resolved so that students can go back to class,” Magaji said.

The strike has disrupted academic activities at the state-owned university, leaving students unable to continue their studies as scheduled.

The SSG urged the affected students to remain patient and allow the government to continue its efforts towards resolving the dispute.

He also advised the students to shun materialism, greed and other social vices, urging them to embrace contentment, discipline and strong personal values.

Magaji further expressed concern over what he described as the declining spirit of comradeship among young people, urging student activists to remain committed to their principles rather than exchanging them for personal benefits.

According to him, genuine comradeship requires commitment, sacrifice and consistency.

He also urged students to reject politics driven by ethnic, religious and other primordial sentiments, warning that such divisions could undermine national development and social unity.

Earlier, the leader of the NANS delegation, Comrade Asmawu Omeze, said the students’ body was in Nasarawa as part of a nationwide campus tour aimed at assessing students’ welfare and conditions.

Omeze, the NANS National Treasurer, clarified that the delegation was not in the state to protest but to engage relevant stakeholders and assess the impact of government policies on students.
