Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence in emerging victorious in the ongoing governorship election after casting his ballot in his hometown, Ede.
Adeleke arrived at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area at about 8:32 a.m. on Saturday and was accredited by the Presiding Officer three minutes later before casting his vote.
Speaking shortly after voting, the governor urged residents to come out in large numbers and participate in the electoral process, stressing that the election provides the people of Osun with an opportunity to determine who governs the state for the next four years.
He also called on voters to remain at their polling units, monitor the process and ensure that their votes are protected through the various stages of collation.
“The people of Osun have the opportunity to decide who governs them for the next four years. I encourage everyone to come out, vote and ensure their votes count,” Adeleke said.
The governor appealed for peace throughout the election, urging voters and political actors to comply with guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adeleke, however, raised concerns over alleged attempts to intimidate voters in parts of the state. He claimed he had received information that a police officer was planning to disrupt the election in Ede and called on the Inspector-General of Police to intervene.
He also alleged that some of his supporters in Modakeke and other areas were being scared away by police officers in an attempt to disenfranchise them.
The governor further urged voters to remain vigilant following reports of alleged fake ballot papers being used at some polling units.
Despite the concerns raised, Adeleke expressed optimism that the election would remain peaceful, credible and ultimately reflect the wishes of the people of Osun State.
