Ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State, the Imole Campaign Council, the campaign organisation backing Governor Ademola Adeleke, has expressed concern over alleged political violence and intimidation, calling on security agencies to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council said its engagements with voters across the state indicated that many residents were determined to vote against the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what it described as concerns over alleged political intimidation, violence and insecurity linked to individuals loyal to the opposition party.
According to the council, the electorate is unwilling to return the state to what it characterised as a period of insecurity and poor governance.
The campaign organisation also highlighted the achievements of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, stating that workers receive their salaries promptly, infrastructure is being upgraded, public institutions are being revitalised, and investments are being made to improve residents’ welfare.
It urged the Inspector-General of Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies to safeguard citizens’ rights and ensure that the governorship election is conducted in a peaceful, free, fair and transparent manner.
The council stressed that the outcome of the election should reflect the genuine choice of Osun voters rather than be influenced by fear or coercion.
“The decision on August 15 belongs to the people of Osun State. They deserve an election that reflects their freely expressed will, not one manipulated through fear, violence, or coercion,” the statement said.
