The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has claimed he is the first governor in Nigeria’s history to serve an entire eight-year tenure without owning a personal house.
Speaking in a video shared with his supporters, the former Osun State governor said he lived in a friend’s house throughout his time in office, describing it as evidence of his modest lifestyle.
“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to rule a state for eight years without owning a house of my own,” Aregbesola said.
“I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as governor in my father’s land. Whoever says what I’m saying is not true should come out and show me the house I own.”
Aregbesola, who served as Governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018, later became Minister of Interior under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
During his tenure as governor, he pursued an agenda focused on reducing poverty, tackling hunger and unemployment, improving healthcare, promoting functional education, and fostering peace and development across the state.
His remarks come amid ongoing political realignments following his emergence as the National Secretary of the ADC.
