The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said the party’s supporters are driven by a desire for change rather than the expectation of election-day inducements.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television on Monday, the former Kano State governor described NDC supporters as Nigerians committed to transforming the country’s leadership through the ballot.
Kwankwaso, who is the running mate to the NDC’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, said the party’s growing support base comprises citizens determined not only to vote but also to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
“Our supporters are not just merely people who are looking for money or who are looking for textile or food items on the day of election,” he said.
“These are people who are determined not only to vote but to make sure that the votes are being protected.”
Kwankwaso and Obi will represent the NDC in the 2027 presidential election, where they are expected to face incumbent President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The Obi-Kwankwaso ticket was formed earlier this year following an agreement between both leaders, which also led to the merger of their political support structures—the Obidient Movement and the Kwankwasiyya Movement—as they seek to unseat the ruling APC in the 2027 elections.
