Soludo Hails Tinubu’s Approval of Key South-East Highways, Says Move Will Heal Civil War Wounds

Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the design and procurement of two major federal highway projects in the South-East, describing the decision as a significant step toward rebuilding the region and addressing the enduring scars of the Nigerian Civil War.

Soludo made the remarks in a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, revealing that the approvals followed a meeting with President Tinubu on July 1 and subsequent engagements with the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

According to the governor, Umahi contacted him after the meeting with the President and requested details of priority road projects discussed during their talks.

Responding on July 3, Soludo proposed the dualisation of the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji (Kogi) Road and the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) Road, a strategic corridor linking Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway through Abia State.

The governor disclosed that on July 15, Umahi informed him that President Tinubu had approved both projects for design and procurement.

Describing the road projects as “critical game-changers,” Soludo said they would enhance connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and strengthen trade across the South-East, South-South, and North-Central regions.

He further stated that the approvals underscore Tinubu’s commitment to reconstructing the South-East, describing the initiative as an important step toward healing the lingering wounds of the Civil War.

“The man who tamed the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos is certainly redefining politics, and the South-East won’t be the same again,” Soludo said.

The governor also praised the collaboration between the federal and state governments, expressing confidence that history would remember Tinubu for advancing infrastructure development in the region.
