The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that more than 2.4 million Nigerians have successfully completed the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In its latest update released on Thursday, the commission disclosed that 2,436,275 eligible voters completed their registration as of July 10, 2026. Of the total, 823,324 registrations were initiated through the online platform, while 1,612,951 were completed at INEC registration centres nationwide.

Kano State recorded the highest number of completed registrations with 182,749 new voters, followed by Edo with 121,554 and Lagos with 114,983.

INEC’s data also showed that women accounted for the majority of new registrants, with 1,282,831 registrations, representing 52.65 per cent of the total. Male registrants stood at 1,153,444, making up 47.35 per cent.

Young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 dominated the exercise, with 1,682,962 registrations, representing over 69 per cent of all newly registered voters.

The commission further revealed that 1,210,624 students successfully registered during the exercise, while 8,326 persons living with disabilities were also captured in the voter database.

Beyond new registrations, INEC processed 252,911 applications for voter transfers, 91,830 requests for the replacement of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and 50,091 requests for the correction of personal information.

Other states that recorded significant registration figures include Delta, Taraba and Sokoto.

Earlier this month, the electoral commission extended the nationwide CVR exercise by two weeks, moving the deadline from July 10 to July 24, 2026. The extension was accompanied by the introduction of an online self-service registration portal aimed at making the process more accessible for first-time voters.

INEC has urged all eligible Nigerians who are yet to register or update their voter information to take advantage of the extension before the exercise concludes on July 24.
