The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has declared that President Bola Tinubu is “tired” and should leave office after completing his current term in 2027.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Obi said he is not driven by a personal ambition to become president but by a desire to see Nigeria function effectively.
The former Anambra State governor accused the Tinubu administration of worsening poverty and insecurity across the country, claiming that millions more Nigerians have fallen below the poverty line since the current government assumed office.
“When Tinubu came into power, about 87 million Nigerians were living in poverty. Today, it’s 140 million,” Obi said.
He also questioned the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, arguing that the worsening economic and security situation contradicts its promises.
“Insecurity has gotten worse. Which hope are they going to renew again? You can’t renew failure,” he stated.
Obi maintained that he is not desperate to occupy the presidency, saying leadership should be judged by performance.
“I am not desperate to be President of Nigeria. There’s a way you will fail in school, and they will ask you to leave the school,” he said.
Highlighting the economic hardship facing many Nigerians, Obi alleged that some business owners who were once financially stable have been forced into petty trading to survive.
“People who had businesses when you came into power are now people who are selling kuli-kuli,” he added.
