Power Restored to Parts of Lagos as TCN Moves to Resolve Grid Fault

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the restoration of electricity to parts of Lagos and its surrounding areas, hours after a major power outage disrupted supply across the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed that the Benin–Egbin 330-kilovolt (kV) transmission line has been successfully restored and is now transmitting bulk electricity.

According to the company, the outage occurred at about 8:19 a.m. on June 25, 2026, following a voltage instability on the national grid that rapidly spread across the Lagos transmission corridor.

TCN explained that the disturbance caused several generating stations to go offline, resulting in transmission line outages and widespread electricity disruption across Lagos and its environs.

The company, however, said swift intervention by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, alongside key stakeholders in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), helped to stabilize the situation and restore one of the affected transmission lines.

“We are pleased to report that one of the affected lines, the Benin–Egbin 330kV transmission line, which was opened during the incident, has already been restored and is currently transmitting bulk electricity,” the statement read.

TCN added that a combined team of engineers from its Benin and Omotoso sub-regions is working to repair the remaining faults on the Benin–Omotoso 330kV transmission line to achieve full restoration of bulk power supply to the Lagos electricity network.

The company noted that the unresolved fault continues to affect bulk power delivery to customers served by Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC).

TCN appealed to affected consumers for patience, assuring them that efforts are ongoing to restore normal electricity supply through the Benin–Omotoso transmission line as quickly as possible.

“We urge all affected consumers to please exercise patience as we work to restore bulk power supply through the Benin–Omotoso transmission line. Updates will be provided as restoration progresses,” the statement added.
