President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sympathy for the families of teachers and pupils abducted in Oriire Local Government Area, declaring that no child should be taken from the safety of a classroom.
In a statement shared on his official social media account on Monday, the President described the incident as painful and distressing, assuring affected families that the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to secure the safe return of the victims.
“I share the pain and anxiety of the affected families. No child should be taken from the safety of a classroom. No parent should have to endure this anguish,” Tinubu said.
As part of ongoing rescue efforts, the President directed the deployment of a specialized security unit equipped with advanced rescue capabilities to support security agencies working to free the abducted teachers and pupils.
Tinubu also approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in partnership with the Oyo State Government following the visit of a high-level federal delegation to the affected communities of Esiele and Yawota.
According to the President, the request by residents for the establishment of a military base in the area is receiving urgent consideration by the Federal Government.
“The communities’ request for the establishment of a military base in the area is receiving urgent consideration,” he stated.
The victims were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, from schools in Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, triggering widespread concern across the country.
The abduction also prompted the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) to direct public school teachers across Oyo State to embark on an indefinite strike in protest and to demand stronger security measures for schools and communities.
The incident has renewed concerns over insecurity in rural communities and the safety of students and teachers, with many Nigerians calling for swift action to secure the release of the victims and prevent future attacks.
