Bauchi, Nigeria — Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has dismissed widespread speculation linking him to a vice-presidential bid alongside former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2027 general elections, insisting that his political ambition remains focused on representing Bauchi South Senatorial District.
The governor was reacting to reports circulating on social media suggesting that he was considering a move to become Jonathan’s running mate under a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The speculation gained momentum following the announcement by a PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki, which on Saturday unveiled Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election during a special national convention held in Abuja.
Although Jonathan was not present at the convention, his certificate of return was received on his behalf by Fred Agbedi.
Addressing the reports, Mohammed categorically denied any plans to abandon his current political aspirations or align himself with the purported presidential ticket.
“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” the governor said.
He urged the public to disregard claims suggesting otherwise, describing them as speculative and inaccurate.
“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate,” he added.
Mohammed’s clarification comes amid growing political discussions and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties and political actors continue to shape their strategies for the next electoral cycle.
