Osun 2026: APC Distances Itself from Anti-Worker Remarks, Seeks Civil Servants’ Support

OSOGBO — The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ajibola Bashiru, has dissociated the party from individuals making derogatory comments about civil servants in Osun State, insisting that such remarks do not reflect the position or ideology of the ruling party.

Speaking during a meeting with former Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) officials at his residence in Osogbo on Saturday, Bashiru described civil servants as indispensable stakeholders in the political and developmental growth of the state.

He stressed that workers remain a critical factor in the APC’s efforts to secure victory in the August 15 governorship election.

According to him, individuals who have publicly challenged or disparaged civil servants under the guise of representing the APC were acting on their own and had no mandate from the party.

“Those who go on radio to challenge workers over their numerical strength in Osun are not speaking for the APC. The party did not send them, and they do not represent our position in any way,” Bashiru said.

He noted that civil servants are respected members of society whose opinions carry weight because of their understanding of governance and leadership.

“Civil servants are enlightened people. They are respected in their communities, and people listen to them because they understand governance and leadership. I have enormous respect for them, and nobody has the authority to insult them in the name of our party,” he added.

The APC scribe appealed to workers in the state not to channel their grievances toward the party over comments made by individuals pursuing personal agendas.

“I want to appeal to our civil servants not to use their influence against the APC because of careless statements from some individuals. Those comments are personal opinions and not the official position of our party,” he said.

Bashiru also cautioned APC members and aspirants against complacency ahead of the governorship election, emphasizing that electoral success would require hard work, unity, and reconciliation among party stakeholders.

“I don’t believe in automatic victory. There is nothing like that in politics. We must work in every ward and every polling unit, and we must appeal to those who are aggrieved,” he stated.

He further urged party faithful to place the success of the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, above personal ambitions, advising National and State Assembly aspirants to focus on delivering victory for the party in the August 15 poll.

Bashiru reiterated that only a united and committed APC could achieve its electoral objectives and maintain its political relevance in Osun State.
