Residents in parts of Kano, Katsina and Kaduna states have been thrown into darkness following a major windstorm that damaged electricity infrastructure across the affected areas.

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the storm brought down 13 electricity poles along major feeder lines, leading to widespread power outages in several communities.

Areas affected include Dandume in Katsina State; Rogo, Sundu, Falgore, Tudun Wada, Saya Saya, Kadawa and Hago communities in Kano State; as well as Ikara in Kaduna State.

According to the electricity distribution company, the severe windstorm caused extensive damage to power facilities supplying electricity to the affected locations.

“The windstorm damaged 13 electricity poles along affected feeder lines, resulting in power interruption in the affected areas,” KEDCO stated.

The company apologised to customers over the disruption and assured residents that engineers were already carrying out repair works to restore electricity supply as soon as possible.

KEDCO further appealed for patience and understanding from affected customers while efforts continue to fully reconnect the impacted communities to the national grid.
