The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of delayed 2025 allowances to Nigerian students studying abroad under the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) scholarship programme.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on Monday, May 19, 2026.
According to the ministry, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has successfully transferred the approved funds to Nigerian embassies and foreign missions for onward distribution to beneficiaries across partner countries.
Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, revealed that the released funds cover half of the outstanding scholarship obligations approved for 2025. He added that arrangements are already underway to settle the remaining balance.
The ministry further explained that the funds have reached the accounts of the affected Nigerian missions, with students expected to begin receiving their payments through the various embassies.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting Nigerian scholars abroad, the ministry stated:
“No Nigerian student pursuing academic excellence under government scholarship schemes will be left unsupported.”
The BEA programme is a federal scholarship scheme designed to support Nigerian students pursuing academic studies in partner countries through bilateral agreements.
