
The Abia State Government has reassured residents that there are currently no confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease, COVID-19, Cholera, Lassa Fever, Rabies, Mpox or Diphtheria anywhere in the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, gave the assurance on Monday while briefing journalists at the Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu, however, urged residents to remain vigilant by maintaining proper personal and environmental hygiene, avoiding contact with rodents, and seeking immediate medical attention whenever they feel unwell.
“Residents are urged to maintain personal and environmental hygiene, avoid contact with rodents and seek medical attention when ill,” the commissioner stated.
He explained that the state government is closely monitoring reports of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, following alerts issued by the World Health Organization and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
The commissioner noted that the government remains committed to safeguarding public health and preventing the spread of infectious diseases across the state.
