Iran Reimposes Tight Control Over Strait of Hormuz Again

0

Iran’s central military command has announced a renewed phase of “strict management” over the Strait of Hormuz, signaling a sharp reversal of its earlier decision to ease restrictions on the critical global shipping route.

In a statement broadcast on state television on Saturday, the military headquarters accused the United States of failing to uphold commitments made during recent negotiations. According to the statement, Washington continued its naval blockade of vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports, undermining prior understandings between both sides.

The Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for a significant share of the world’s oil shipments, had previously seen reduced tensions following Iran’s temporary move to unblock the channel as part of diplomatic efforts.

However, Iranian authorities say the situation has now changed. The military command warned that until the United States restores full freedom of navigation for ships linked to Iran, control over the strait will remain tightened.

The development raises fresh concerns over maritime security and global energy supply, as any disruption in the narrow waterway could have far-reaching economic and geopolitical consequences.
