APC Accuses Makinde of Prioritising 2027 Politics Over Governance in Oyo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of abandoning governance in favour of political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare, the APC alleged that the governor has shifted focus away from pressing state matters to pursue personal political ambitions.

The opposition party claimed that several critical issues requiring the governor’s attention—including insecurity, waste management challenges, and recent road accidents—have not received adequate response due to his alleged absence.

According to the statement, recent developments in the state have heightened concerns among political observers and public affairs analysts, who believe the government should have shown stronger leadership in addressing these challenges.

The APC specifically referenced a recent road accident at Oje Market in Ibadan, which reportedly claimed multiple lives. It alleged that shortly after the incident, Governor Makinde convened a meeting with political supporters to discuss strategies related to the 2027 elections.

The party further criticised what it described as insensitive timing, claiming that while residents were mourning, the governor engaged in activities it characterised as celebratory, including the procurement of new vehicles for council officials.

The APC called on Governor Makinde to refocus on governance and prioritise the welfare and safety of residents, urging him to address the state’s challenges rather than engage in early political manoeuvring.
