Power Crisis: FG Moves to Tackle Gas Supply Shortfall as Adelabu Signals Hope for Improved Electricity

0

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has announced that the Federal Government is implementing decisive measures to address persistent gas supply challenges disrupting electricity generation across the country.

In his Eid al-Fitr message titled “Let Our Sacrifices Strengthen National Progress,” Adelabu acknowledged the severity of the crisis but expressed optimism that recent interventions are beginning to yield gradual improvements in power supply.

Nigeria’s electricity sector has faced mounting pressure following reduced gas supply to thermal power plants, raising concerns over a potential system collapse. Data from the Nigeria Independent System Operator shows that national grid generation stood at 3,940.53 megawatts as of March 5, 2026.

Despite the challenges, the minister assured Nigerians that concrete steps are underway to ensure a more stable and sustainable electricity supply for households, businesses, and industries.

“The reforms initiated under the leadership of Bola Tinubu are beginning to take root, and Nigerians will soon experience the full benefits,” Adelabu said.

He also highlighted the administration’s broader economic and diplomatic efforts, referencing President Tinubu’s recent engagements in the United Kingdom as a pathway to increased investment and strengthened bilateral relations.

Adelabu called for continued public support, noting that current challenges are part of a broader transformation agenda aimed at long-term national prosperity.

Meanwhile, political developments may soon reshape the minister’s position in government. President Tinubu has directed all public office holders with political ambitions to resign on or before March 31, 2026. Although unconfirmed, reports suggest Adelabu may step down in the coming days as he prepares to contest the Oyo State governorship election under the All Progressives Congress.

Adelabu previously contested the Oyo governorship in 2019 on the APC platform and again in 2023 under the Accord Party.
