Logistics Remain INEC’s Biggest Challenge, Says Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has identified logistics as the Commission’s most critical challenge, warning that the credibility of any election is directly tied to the effectiveness of its logistical planning and execution.

Speaking on Sunday at the Citizens Town Hall Meeting on the Electoral Act in Abuja, the INEC chairman stressed that no election can succeed without a strong logistical framework.

“An election can only be as good as its logistics. Once you experience logistical failure, you are already on the path to failure,” he said.

Prof. Amupitan disclosed that prior to the election, the Commission engaged various stakeholders, including media representatives and civil society organisations, to define what constitutes a successful electoral process.

“As far as the election is concerned, we should be able to determine what a successful election means. And a successful election is fundamentally based on logistics,” he noted.

While acknowledging that the Commission encountered logistical challenges, he explained that some of the issues were caused by human errors, which INEC is currently working to address.

“There were logistical issues, some purely human, and we are taking steps to resolve them,” he added.

The INEC chairman also appealed to Nigerians for understanding, noting the growing public demand for flawless elections.

“I have noticed that Nigerians now desire a perfect election. We will strive as much as possible to give this country the best election achievable,” he assured.

The remarks come amid ongoing discussions on electoral reforms and the operational efficiency of Nigeria’s electoral system.
