2027: South-South ADC Leaders Rally Behind Amaechi’s Presidential Bid

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), John Odigie-Oyegun, has disclosed that leaders of the party in the South-South geopolitical zone have unanimously endorsed former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Odigie-Oyegun made the announcement on Friday while addressing journalists following a meeting between Amaechi and key stakeholders of the party in the region.

According to him, Amaechi formally informed the leaders of his intention to contest the presidency under the ADC platform and sought their support.

He commended the former minister for consulting widely within the zone before making public moves toward his ambition.

“We are glad that our son, His Excellency Rotimi Amaechi, took advantage of this meeting to formally brief us of his intention to run for the presidency of our great nation,” Odigie-Oyegun said.

He noted that the leaders appreciated Amaechi’s decision to engage them directly rather than building parallel political structures without consultation.

“We thanked him for the respect he has shown the leaders of the zone by informing his people of his plans before embarking on this journey,” he added.

Odigie-Oyegun further revealed that the South-South leaders reached a unanimous decision to support Amaechi’s aspiration and pledged to provide him with the necessary backing in pursuit of the ADC presidential ticket.

He also disclosed plans for sustained engagement among leaders of the zone, stating that regular meetings would be held to strengthen collaboration and ensure the South-South remains politically influential ahead of the 2027 elections.

The endorsement marks a significant development within the ADC as political realignments and consultations intensify in preparation for the next general election cycle.
