Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have attacked a military camp in Garaha District of Hong Local Government Area in Adamawa State, killing three soldiers and a civilian woman.
The assault, which occurred late Saturday morning, February 21, is the latest in a series of attacks targeting communities within Hong LGA in recent months.
Eyewitnesses said the insurgents stormed the camp, firing sporadically and catching the soldiers off guard. According to a resident, Isaiah Yerima, the attackers reportedly ambushed the troops from the rear through the Lar axis, gaining a tactical advantage.
Although the soldiers were said to have mounted resistance and engaged the attackers in a gun battle, the insurgents ultimately overpowered them and set the entire military facility ablaze.
In the course of the attack, three soldiers were confirmed dead. A civilian woman was also killed by a stray bullet while attempting to flee the scene. The insurgents further razed a primary school and other key infrastructure in the area.
As of press time, the military and the police had yet to issue official statements regarding the incident.
However, the Chairman of Hong Local Government Area, Usman Aliyu Wa’aganda, and the Hong paramount ruler, Tol Alheri Nyako, confirmed that the attack took place.
