The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, on Sunday led the formal reception of several defectors from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the ruling party in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State.
The defection rally, held amid growing political realignments in the state, precedes the planned official welcoming ceremony of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, into the APC.
Party faithful and newly admitted members used the occasion to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Yusuf for second terms in office, signaling what party leaders described as renewed unity and consolidation within the APC in Kano.
In a related development, a prominent stakeholder from the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency publicly urged the Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawaki, to rejoin active partisan politics and contest the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa seat in the House of Representatives.
The rally attracted a strong lineup of party heavyweights, underscoring its political significance. Among those present were Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin; former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Kano State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas; Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), Ismail Ahmed; and the President’s Special Adviser on Senate Matters, Senator Bashir Lado Mohammed, alongside other party leaders and stakeholders.
Observers note that the high-profile attendance and coordinated endorsements reflect strategic efforts by the APC to consolidate its base in Kano ahead of future electoral contests.
