Suspected fighters of Boko Haram have carried out a deadly overnight assault on communities in Niger State, leaving at least 21 people confirmed dead and several others feared missing.
The attacks reportedly occurred in parts of Borgu and Agwara local government areas late last night, as gunmen moved from village to village, opening fire on residents and setting homes ablaze.
Renowned security reporter Zakari Y. Adamu Kontogora disclosed the incident on his Facebook page, citing security sources who spoke to his publication. According to the sources, at least 21 residents were confirmed killed after the attackers stormed the Konkoso community.
The assailants were also said to have invaded nearby villages, including Pissa, Zango, and Tungan Maƙeri. Several people were reportedly killed during the raids, while numerous houses and shops were destroyed by fire.
As of the time this report was filed, the gunmen were believed to still be operating within the affected areas, triggering widespread fear and panic among residents.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the attacks.
