“Political Battle Has Just Begun” — El-Rufai Speaks on Return, Opposition to Tinubu Administration

Abuja, Nigeria — Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has suggested that certain figures within the current administration may be uneasy about his return to Nigeria, even as he declared that efforts to challenge the government are only just beginning.

Speaking during an interview with BBC Hausa on Friday, El-Rufai stated that he had openly opposed the government from its early days in office.

“You know, when that government came, I was among the few people who came out and said we would oppose it and remove it. There was nothing I did not say,” he remarked.

Addressing allegations reportedly leveled against him, the former governor maintained that no formal charges have been substantiated.

“If they had anything against me like they claim to have against others, the matter would have long been settled. But even if you want to accuse me, make sure you prove the accusation. I am waiting; whoever invites me, I will go,” he added.

El-Rufai explained that his disagreement with the current administration stems from differences in political direction and policy objectives rather than personal animosity.

Commenting on his relationship with President Bola Tinubu, he clarified that there is no personal rift between them, emphasizing that his position is based on principle and governance issues.

His remarks come amid growing political realignments and renewed opposition activity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
