Fave Raises Alarm Over Alleged Ban on Concerts During Ramadan in Nigeria

Lagos, Nigeria – Nigerian singer Chidozie Godsfavour Ugochinyere, popularly known as Fave, has sparked conversation online after raising concerns over an alleged directive preventing artistes from organizing music shows in Nigeria during the Islamic Ramadan period.

The Baby Riddim crooner disclosed that plans to hold a birthday concert on March 13 have hit repeated roadblocks because the date falls within Ramadan, a period during which music concerts are reportedly discouraged or prohibited.

Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, Fave expressed confusion over the development, questioning why her proposed show could not go on as planned.

“So I was tryna do a show in Nigeria on my birthday this year but they’re telling me shows aren’t allowed during Ramadan? I’m a little confused,” she wrote.

In a follow-up post, the singer revealed that multiple promoters had declined to work with her, citing the same reason. According to her, the rejections came back-to-back despite her desire to stage her first independent show in Nigeria.

Fave further argued that Ramadan should not interfere with her personal plans or business, noting that she is a Christian and grew up in southern Nigeria where she was not exposed to Ramadan practices until later in life.

“I respect all religions. But I’m Christian and I really want to do this on my birthday,” she stated, while appealing to any promoter willing to partner with her despite the timing.

Her comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with Nigerians debating religious sensitivity, entertainment regulations, and freedom of artistic expression in a multi-religious society.
