APC Chairman Distances Party From Wike–Fubara Rift, Calls Rivers Impeachment an Internal Matter

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has clarified the party’s position on the ongoing political tension involving former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Tuesday, Yilwatda said the dispute between Wike and Fubara does not fall within his responsibility as APC national chairman.

According to him, Wike remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Fubara belongs to the APC, making the matter largely outside the party’s jurisdiction.

“When it comes to the issue between Wike and Fubara, it is not within my purview as the national chairman of APC. Wike is in PDP, Fubara is in APC,” he stated.

Yilwatda further explained that the ongoing impeachment controversy in Rivers State is strictly an internal APC matter, as it involves members of the Rivers State House of Assembly elected on the party’s platform.

“The issue of impeachment is no longer about Wike. It concerns APC House of Assembly members, and that is something we can address internally. We have mechanisms within the party to resolve such matters,” he said.

The APC chairman emphasized the importance of discretion and political maturity in resolving internal disputes, noting that such issues should not be unnecessarily exposed to public debate.

“We do not take internal discussions to the public. These issues are resolved through in-house processes that require maturity. Wike is not a problem in APC,” Yilwatda added.
