The Abdulraman Mohammed-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced preparations for the screening of aspirants contesting the 2027 general elections, covering both presidential and governorship tickets.

In a statement released in Abuja on Thursday by the National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, on behalf of the National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, the party announced that the screening exercise will hold at its National Secretariat Annex, Legacy House, Maitama.

According to the schedule, governorship aspirants will be screened at 12 noon, while presidential aspirants are expected to appear before the screening panel at 2 p.m. on the same day and venue.

The presidential screening committee is chaired by former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, with Hassan Sokodobo serving as secretary. Other members include Alhaji Abba Isawa, Senator George Sekibo, Sodipo Semiu, Mrs. Chinelo Chidebelu, Nasiru Mohammed, Senator Zainab Kure, and Lindsey Sora.

For the governorship exercise, the committee will be headed by former Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi, with George Ariolu as secretary. Other members include Dr Ibrahim Umar, Prof. Aisha Madawaki, Tajudeen Yusuf, Dr Abdulganiyu Oloyin, Babangida Modibbo, Alhaji Buba Biri, Olaniyi Ogungbuji, Mike Ahumibe, Gabriel Igboko, Pastor Tony Effiong, and Mrs Precious Ojelabi.

The development comes amid adjustments to the party’s election timetable by a separate interim National Working Committee led by Tanimu Turaki, which recently extended the deadline for the purchase of nomination and expression of interest forms to May 15.

The extension also shifts the deadline for returning completed forms to May 18, while screening of aspirants is now scheduled for May 19.

In a public notice jointly signed by National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong and National Organising Secretary Theophilus Shan, the party explained that the adjustment followed appeals from stakeholders and aspirants across the country.

The PDP noted that while governorship and presidential aspirants will be screened in Abuja, National and State Assembly aspirants are to undergo screening within their respective states. All other aspects of the electoral timetable remain unchanged.
