Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has dismissed speculations linking him with a possible bid for the office of Senate President, insisting that his immediate priority is securing another term in the Senate.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today on Wednesday, the former Edo State governor said it would be premature and presumptuous to discuss ambitions for the Senate presidency when his current mandate is yet to be renewed by the people of Edo North.

Oshiomhole stated that his tenure would officially expire at the end of the current legislative session in June, stressing that he still has to scale through the party primaries and the general election before contemplating any higher office.

“My current tenure will end at the end of this session, on June 12 or 13. I have applied for renewal, and I cannot take the people of Edo North for granted,” he said.

The senator noted that he has already undergone screening for another term and is preparing for the party primaries scheduled for Monday, after which he would face the senatorial election.

According to him, only those who ignore the uncertainty of life and politics begin to project themselves into offices they have not yet earned.

“I think we should take it step by step. Right now, I am working hard to secure a renewal of my mandate. I will not join in playing God,” Oshiomhole added.

His comments come amid growing political speculation over possible contenders for the leadership of the Senate ahead of the next legislative session.
