Lagos, Nigeria – Nigerian singer and Grammy nominee, Davido, has revealed that his hit song With You, featuring Omah Lay, nearly failed to make the final tracklist of his latest album, 5IVE.
The Afrobeats star made the disclosure during an interview with OkayAfrica, which was reposted by HYPETRIBE on Monday. According to Davido, the song did not impress during internal listening sessions and was not considered a standout by his team at the time.
“Man, it’s so crazy because that song almost didn’t make the album. With You was not in anybody’s top five,” he said.
Davido admitted that the song’s later success has become an emotional reminder for him, especially whenever he performs it on stage.
“And now look at it go. Every time I was performing it, my heart would just start beating like, what if I didn’t put this song?” he added.
With You has since gone on to become one of Davido’s most successful recent releases, earning him another Grammy nomination, topping music charts, and surpassing 100 million streams on Spotify.
The singer also shared how he found out about the Grammy nomination, describing the moment as completely unexpected. He said he received the call while in Dubai, just days before his birthday, as he was out inspecting a car.
“They were like, ‘Oh yeah, another nomination.’ I was like, wow. Thank God,” he recalled.
Looking ahead, Davido said his focus remains on touring and releasing new music. He confirmed that he will be performing at Coachella 2026, making him the only Nigerian artist on the festival’s lineup.
The award-winning artist is scheduled to perform on Saturday, April 11, and Saturday, April 18, 2026, in Indio, California.
“Going back on tour, definitely more music. I’m about to do Coachella. Big plans,” Davido said.
