A United States Congressman, Rep. Riley Moore, has disclosed plans to brief the White House on the worsening persecution of Christians in Nigeria and propose concrete options to address the crisis.
Moore made the disclosure in a statement posted on his verified X account on Tuesday, reacting to comments by Catholic Bishop Robert Barron, who recently drew international attention to the killings of Christians in Nigeria.
Expressing appreciation for the bishop’s intervention, the US lawmaker acknowledged the severity of the situation and reaffirmed his commitment to pushing the issue at the highest levels of the US government.
“Thank you Bishop Barron for shedding a light on how our brothers and sisters in Christ are being persecuted for their faith in Nigeria,” Moore wrote. “You’re right. I will be briefing the White House on this topic very soon to give them options on how to protect Christians in Nigeria.”
Moore further revealed that the planned briefing aligns with broader legislative efforts already underway in the US Congress. According to him, the recently passed Fiscal Year 2026 National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs (NSRP) bill includes provisions aimed at protecting US security interests, upholding humanitarian values, and safeguarding religious freedom globally.
He added that the House Appropriations Committee is preparing to submit a detailed report to President Donald Trump on the situation in Nigeria, focusing on verified facts, congressional oversight, and leadership-driven responses.
The development signals growing concern within the US government over religious violence in Nigeria, particularly against Christian communities, and may increase diplomatic and policy pressure on the Nigerian authorities to address the ongoing crisis.
