ADC Not Owned by Any Individual, Open to Obi, Amaechi, Others — Party Insists

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its status as an independent and self-governing political party, dismissing claims that it is under the control of any single individual or being positioned to serve the personal ambition of a particular politician.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Friday, the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, stressed that the ADC operates on the principle of collective ownership and remains open to all Nigerians, including prominent political figures such as former presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Abdullahi rejected allegations that the party is being groomed as a political vehicle for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing such claims as baseless and rooted in a poor understanding of the ADC’s internal structure.

According to him, members of the party are fully aware that no individual can claim ownership of the ADC, a position that has allowed politicians from diverse backgrounds to associate freely with the party.

“Those of us within the ADC know that the party does not belong to any one person. That is why someone like Peter Obi can join, and why Rotimi Amaechi is already a member,” he said.

The ADC spokesperson further accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of fuelling speculation about the party’s leadership and direction, alleging attempts to interfere in its internal affairs.

He also assured Nigerians that the party’s presidential candidate would emerge through a transparent and credible process, noting that the outcome is not predetermined.

“Whoever eventually becomes our presidential candidate, whether Atiku or any other aspirant, will emerge through due process,” Abdullahi stated, reaffirming that the ADC is not the personal platform of any individual.
