Lagos — Dele Momodu, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may emerge as Nigeria’s “Abraham Lincoln” if destiny allows, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Monday during an X Space session titled “Avrilsspace: The Electoral Mathematics for 2027”, Momodu expressed confidence in Atiku’s chances of clinching the presidency.
“Atiku has been running since 1993. If God favours him, he may likely become the Abraham Lincoln of Nigeria. I leave that to God,” Momodu said.
Atiku’s political journey spans decades. He first contested in 1993 under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), stepping down for MKO Abiola in Jos, Plateau State. In the 2023 presidential election, he lost to President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but indications suggest he may vie again in 2027.
Momodu added: “I’m never a desperate supporter of any candidate, I’m a realist. But I believe he stands the best chance today. He’s in good health, his business is thriving, and his family is admirable. He has conducted his life in a very simple and straightforward manner. Despite occasional differences with Obasanjo, he has never resorted to personal insults.”
With the 2027 polls on the horizon, Atiku’s supporters remain optimistic about a political comeback for the seasoned politician.
