“We Are in PDP to Stay” — Abba Moro Rejects Defection Rumours

Abba Moro, senator representing Benue South and Senate Minority Leader, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he has no intention of leaving the party despite ongoing defections.

Moro made the statement on Wednesday during a consultative meeting between PDP stakeholders and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), chaired by Kabiru Turaki.

Amid a wave of defections that has affected the opposition party since the beginning of the year, Moro insisted that neither political pressure nor intimidation would force him or other committed members out of the PDP.

“I want to inform you, Mr Chairman, that many of us here are not poor or desperate politicians. We are in PDP to stay,” Moro said. “We are not in PDP merely to win elections, and we are certainly not obsessed with the 2027 elections. No amount of intimidation will push us out of the PDP.”

Describing the PDP as Nigeria’s most credible platform for democratic governance, the Senate Minority Leader urged the newly elected NWC to work closely with party leaders at all levels to rebuild unity and strengthen internal cohesion.

“The national convention has come and gone. The responsibility now rests on you and the members of the NWC to salvage the situation. Yours is a very herculean task,” he added.

In his response, Turaki assured party members that the new leadership is committed to repositioning the PDP and restoring public confidence.

“Our mission is to save this country from anti-democratic forces and protect our multiparty democracy. The 2027 general elections are not about defections; they are about Nigerians,” Turaki said.

He praised Moro and other PDP senators for what he described as their “principled stance,” calling them “pillars of the party.”

Also speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Adolphus Wabara, commended the party for a successful national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, and pledged the BoT’s full support for the Turaki-led NWC.

“From the early days of this leadership, it is clear that our party is being repositioned, structures are being strengthened, and confidence is gradually being restored across the federation,” Wabara said.

He stressed the need for unity, reconciliation, and healing within the party, noting that internal cohesion remains critical to the PDP’s future.
