Tinubu Swears In Gen. Christopher Musa as New Defence Minister

0

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (rtd), as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.

The brief ceremony took place on Thursday at the State House, Abuja.

His inauguration comes barely 24 hours after the Senate confirmed him following an intense five-hour screening, during which lawmakers questioned him over recent security failures across the country.

A major concern raised during the session was the controversial withdrawal of troops from Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State—hours before schoolgirls were abducted on November 17. Lawmakers also demanded clarity on the killing of Brigade Commander, Brig-Gen. Musa Uba, in Borno State, and other targeted attacks on senior officers.

General Musa assured the Senate that he would immediately launch a full-scale investigation into the Kebbi troop withdrawal and reopen inquiries into the death of Brig-Gen. Uba and related incidents once he assumed office.

With his swearing-in now complete, the new Defence Minister is expected to begin work on strengthening security operations nationwide.
