President Bola Tinubu has nominated retired Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa as Nigeria’s next Minister of Defence.

In an official letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu confirmed Musa’s nomination to succeed Alhaji Mohammed Badaru, who stepped down on Monday.

Gen. Musa served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 until October 2025 and is a recipient of the prestigious Colin Powell Award for Soldiering, earned in 2012.

Born in Sokoto in 1967, Musa completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown before attending the College of Advanced Studies in Zaria. He graduated in 1986 and subsequently joined the Nigerian Defence Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1991.

This appointment marks a significant step in Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle, placing an experienced military leader at the helm of Nigeria’s defence portfolio.
