The Lead Pastor of the Citadel Global Community Church, Tunde Bakare, has urged President Bola Tinubu to tender a public apology to Nigerians whose communities have been ravaged by insecurity.
Bakare made the call on Sunday during his State of the Nation Address in Lagos, where he stressed that the gesture would signal a genuine commitment to justice, healing, and national reconciliation.
He noted that although President Tinubu has begun taking steps to confront the security crisis, much deeper and more deliberate action is needed to rebuild confidence across the country.
“Government must first accept responsibility for decades of failure to protect citizens from terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes,” Bakare said.
The cleric proposed a strategic plan that includes the creation of a Victims and Survivors Register, a formal national apology to affected communities after three months, and midterm compensation for those who have suffered losses.
He maintained that accountability remains central to restoring public trust and breaking the persistent cycle of violence.
