Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has raised serious concerns over the withdrawal of military personnel from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, barely 45 minutes before armed men abducted dozens of students in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
The governor spoke on Thursday while receiving Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, who led a delegation on a solidarity visit to the state.
Idris said he was deeply disturbed that soldiers stationed at the school left around 3am, despite earlier intelligence warnings issued by the state government about threats in the area.
“We provided intelligence reports. We alerted them. So who gave the order for troops to withdraw at that critical hour?” the governor asked, calling for a full-scale military investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He noted that the withdrawal contradicted earlier assurances from security agencies regarding strengthened protection for schools in vulnerable border communities regularly targeted by bandits.
Ajaero expressed strong solidarity with the state and the affected families, urging federal security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted schoolgirls.
The attack has triggered widespread outrage across the country, marking yet another assault on educational institutions in Nigeria’s North-West despite repeated government promises to bolster school security.
