The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday delivered a damning verdict against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), declaring him an international terrorist and convicting him for inciting violence.
Justice James Omotosho, while delivering judgment, stated that Kanu’s actions, utterances, and directives amounted to terrorism both within and outside Nigeria. The court cited his broadcasts ordering attacks on foreign diplomatic institutions as key evidence.
According to the judge, Kanu allegedly instructed his followers to destroy the American Embassy and kill officials of the British High Commission—orders the court described as clear signs of an “anarchy-driven mindset.”
Justice Omotosho held that these broadcasts showed a pattern of conduct that extended Kanu’s alleged terrorist activities beyond Nigeria’s borders, thereby establishing him as an “international terrorist.”
The court also convicted him for belonging to a proscribed organization and for inciting violence through repeated inflammatory statements.
More details to follow as the judgment continues to generate reactions nationwide.
