Former Kaduna State Governor and Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Ahmed Makarfi, has stepped down from his position, citing zoning concerns within the party.
Makarfi tendered his resignation in a letter dated November 17, 2025, addressed to BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara. He explained that his exit became necessary following the emergence of a new National Chairman from his geopolitical zone, a development he believes contradicts long-standing internal balancing principles.
He revealed that this was not his first attempt to quit. According to him, he initially resigned two months earlier via the PDP BoT WhatsApp platform but suspended the move after Wabara intervened and urged him to remain until the party’s national convention was concluded.
“In the interest of maintaining fairness and ensuring proper zoning, both the BoT Secretary and the National Chairman should not come from the same geopolitical zone,” Makarfi stated.
His resignation adds another layer to the ongoing internal adjustments within the PDP as the party continues to reposition ahead of future political contests.
