An autopsy has confirmed that former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State, Mr. Bamidele Akingboye, was murdered, according to the Lagos State Police Command.
The police disclosed that they are awaiting legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) to file charges against anyone found responsible for the killing.
Akingboye was discovered dead under unclear circumstances on September 3, 2025. His body was reportedly found in the backyard of his Lagos mansion, prompting immediate calls for investigation from his first son, Samuel Akingboye, who resides in Ondo State.
Speaking to Channels Television, Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, CP Olorundare Jimoh, revealed that the autopsy conducted on September 11, alongside new investigative findings, led to the re-arrest and detention of seven out of 14 family members earlier questioned.
“With the toxicology findings concluded, we await advice from the DPP so prosecution can begin against anyone found culpable of murder,” CP Jimoh stated, reaffirming the command’s commitment to uncovering the truth.
Detectives also flagged a suspicious N50 million transfer from the deceased’s account, allegedly shared among some immediate family members, as part of their ongoing investigation.
The police say further actions will be guided by the DPP’s recommendations.
