Unconfirmed reports have sparked tension across Anambra State following claims that former Governor Willie Obiano has passed away.
An online publication, Sahara Reporters, alleged on Wednesday that the former governor died in a London hospital. However, no official confirmation has been issued as at the time of filing this report.
When contacted, Obiano’s personal publicist, Mr. Tony Nezianya, told DAILY POST he had not received any information suggesting the former governor’s death.
“I can’t confirm to you; I’m not aware of such news,” he stated.
Obiano, who governed Anambra State from 2014 to 2022 after succeeding Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, was born on August 8, 1955, in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
He is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N4 billion fraud.
More details shortly.
