Terror struck again in Katsina State on Thursday night as armed bandits invaded Doguwar Dorawa, a small farming community near Guga in Bakori Local Government Area, killing two respected elders and abducting several villagers.
According to residents who spoke to DAILY POST, the gunmen stormed the quiet community around 10 p.m. and unleashed terror for over an hour without any resistance from security operatives. The victims, identified as Alhaji Bishir and Alhaji Surajo, were described as brothers and key figures of moral and traditional leadership in the area.
Witnesses said the attackers arrived on motorcycles, parked them in a nearby bush, and then infiltrated the community on foot to avoid detection. They reportedly looted homes, kidnapped residents, and killed anyone who resisted.
“The bandits operated freely for more than an hour,” a source said. “They killed the two brothers and abducted many others. These are the people we always turn to for guidance and unity in our village. Their deaths are a big loss to us.”
The attackers are suspected to be loyalists of two notorious bandit leaders, Idi Abasu Aiki and Kwashen Garwa, who have been terrorizing Bakori and neighboring communities for months.
While Doguwar Dorawa was reeling from the assault, another nearby community, Layin ‘Yannehu, was also attacked almost simultaneously. Residents said the bandits rustled a large number of livestock before escaping into the forest.
Recent weeks have seen a surge in bandit activities across Bakori, with similar incidents reported in Ganjar, Alhazawa, and Gidan Nagari. Over 40 people have reportedly been abducted and dozens of families displaced in the series of coordinated attacks.
The latest violence has renewed public concern over the effectiveness of the state government’s peace accord with armed groups, as communities continue to suffer repeated raids despite ongoing negotiations.
